Just because you’re all grown up, doesn’t mean you have to stop dating. If you’re married your spouse may not take too kindly to your dating other people, but if you’re single, then regardless of your age, there are many ways to meet other single adults and find dating opportunities. Whether you intend to meet Mr. or Ms. Right, or Mr. or Ms. Right Now, he or she is out there. All you need is a little bit of initiative and a few suggestions for where to start looking.

The most obvious place to start looking is on the Internet. These days, the Internet is crammed full of dating websites. Many are geographically-specific, but there are also dating sites specific to various ethnicities and religions, and even interests. Somewhere out there, is a website full of people who you might be interested in, and some of them will inevitably be willing to meet you. Perhaps your special someone is a mouse click or two away!

The biggest advantage of using the Internet as a dating tool is that you get the opportunity to screen vast numbers of potential dates. You get to find out a little bit about their interests and preferences before you commit the time and energy to actually going on a date. It can be very efficient. These days, there is no social stigma to dating someone you meet on the Internet, but you may find the process of using dating sites to be too clinical and methodical.

You can also meet potential dates on the Internet in more serendipitous ways. For example, are you interested in photography? There are photography forums on the Internet. Forums are a great way to meet people with similar interests. People aren’t looking for dates in these forums, and you will likely meet as friends first. The downside is that if you are attracted to the person you will have to convince them to escalate into a date, the upside is that it is a low-pressure way to meet potential dates with similar interests.

You can meet people in real life too. One way to meet people is in adult education classes. Events like cooking classes or wine tasting classes become de facto places for singles to mingle.
If you are a busy professional, a fun way to meet lots of people is through speed dating events. This is great for movie people, because you basically have just a few minutes with each potential date to pitch. The difference is, you’re not pitching an action movie featuring Kevin Sorbo, and you’re pitching yourself to a potential date. After you pitch, you move on to another potential date and have just a few minutes to pitch again. The people who mutually feel they have chemistry get the chance to meet after the event.

Finally, for the diehard romantics, there are the traditional methods of positioning yourself for a romantic comedy style meet-cute. You could do things like walk your dog, or hang out in bookstores. Who knows, you might have a “Sex in the City” moment.
