Do you think you might be pregnant? If you even suspect you might be pregnant, even if you are experiencing no symptoms, you should take a home pregnancy test right away. They are easy to administer and relatively inexpensive, and will give you peace of mind one-way or the other.
It could be difficult to tell if you’re actually pregnant based one early symptoms. Early pregnancy symptoms can resemble the flu or PMS. One of the more exotic signs that you may be pregnant is that your pet or pets may behave differently toward you. Pets often seem to have a sense of when you’re pregnant; perhaps this is because of changes in your body chemistry resulting from the pregnancy. After all, dogs and cats have a much more advanced sense of smell than humans. Do not count on less intelligent pets like birds or goldfish to be aware of your pregnancy, however.
The most obvious symptom that you may be pregnant is that you’ve missed your period. The fact that you missed your period does not necessarily mean that the egg you should have dropped was instead fertilized, however. There are a number of reasons why one might miss one’s period, including stress, illness, and over-training if you’re a fitness buff. Still, if you miss your period you should at the very least take a home pregnancy test if you have been sexually active at all.
One sign that you may be pregnant is that your emotions are suddenly thrown into turmoil. Pregnancy causes significant changes in your hormonal makeup, and this will inevitably lead to mood swings. If you feel doubts, anxiety and fear about the possibility that you might be pregnant, then followed by happiness, excitement or anticipation, it could just be emotional fallout from the stress of the situation—but it could also be mood swings as a result of changes in your body chemistry. If you are experiencing unusual mood swings, especially if you’ve missed your period, you should at the very least take a home pregnancy test. You may not be pregnant, but you might—and it’s best to know for certain.
The term of pregnancy is counted from the first day of your last period. Thus at conception, the unborn child may be two weeks old already! The first twelve weeks are known as the first trimester. For the benefit of both you and your potential child, you should figure out as soon as possible whether you are pregnant.
Other symptoms you may experience include queasiness and possibly even vomiting. Subtler signs include a need to urinate more often, feeling constantly tired, swelling in your breasts or tenderness in your breasts, constipation or heartburn, and headaches. By themselves, none of these symptoms might convince you that you are pregnant. However, taken together as a pattern, these symptoms may indicate pregnancy. It is very important to find out if you are pregnant as soon as possible, because while many pregnancies go smoothly, not all of them do and you may well need to be under a doctor’s supervision as soon as possible.
