However, the founder of the Versace line, Gianni Versace, was killed in 1997 by a man named Andrew Cunanan. As a result, Gianni sister Donatella took over the position of creative director for the Versace line. Gianni’s older brother Santo stepped in as CEO.

The Versace company went public in the Year 2006, offerng an IPO on the stock market due in part to a decline in operating loss, based on sales during the previous year. The decision proved to be very successful for the company and the Versace label continues to be very popular among the celebrity populus.
