How to Stay Fit for the Holidays

With the recesssion looming in our minds, it seems as though everyone is on edge, and this coupled with the stress from the holidays makes those chocolate brownies and gingerbread men look more enticing than ever.  So, if you have a bunch of holiday parties to attend, here are some tips to staying fit for the holidays.

Give in, but only a little-  It IS the holidays, so it’s perfectly fine for you to have a candy cane, Grandma’s christmas cookies, or perhaps that delicious pastry during the beginning of Hannukah celebrations.  The key here is moderation, and eating slowly.  Instead of adding more to your thought, just use that time to network and make rounds at the party.

Move everyday-  Most of us have sedentary jobs, which requires us to do little more than move our fingers over the keyboard, but the key to staying fit is obviously exercise.  Whether you decide to take a 20 minute walk during lunch, or perhaps go for a quick jog before work, taking time out for exercise will do wonders for your mood.  And how you look in those jeans.

Stay hydrated- In between snacks or meals, it’s always best to guzzle water which is not only great for your skin, but makes your feel full, so you won’t nosh as much.  Seltzer water or diet soda also do the trick.

Have fun-  The Holidays only come once a year, so take advantage of the season. Go carolling, decorate the tree, go to local holiday events, and take comfort in the company of your friends and loved ones.
If all else fails and you do have a bit too much of Aunt Emma’s ham and Grandma Ruth’s gingerbread, there’s always January 2nd, where you can work out that gym membership card.
