Sleep Like a Queen!

With the economy in crisis and unemployment soaring, there are many of reasons for Americans to have trouble getting a good night’s sleep.  While there doesn’t seem to be a quick end in sight to the troubles our country is facing, there may be a quick fix for your sleeping woes.  Studies show that making changes to your sleeping environment can actually improve your sleep quality.  The best way to modify your environment is with new, super-comfy bedding.

While luxury bedding may not be on your recessionista-chic budget, more affordable brands are taking hints from luxury brands when it comes to design and materials.  The big trends we’ve spotted for bedding going into 2009 are ethnic-inspired prints (think Moroccan or Mexican designs).  Bold, solid colors have also been showing up all over the place, as have patterns involving large blocks of colors.  It seems people are trying to create fun, carefree rooms to provide solace from the gloominess in the news.  Duvet covers are also becoming increasingly popular, replacing comforters as the bedding of choice.  Duvet covers allow you to adjust the weight of your covers based on seasonality so you don’t have to throw your cute comforter off the bed in summer months.  Quilts are also making a comeback among those with sentimental memories of grandparents’ homes.  As far as bed linens, simple seems to be king, with many consumers opting to go bold with comforters or duvets but mild with linens.

Kids’ bedding has seen a rise in celebrity-inspired prints.  Gone are the days of girls with Barbie bedding and boys with cars and trucks – in are the days of Hannah Montana and Tony Romo.  I guess if you’re a kid and have the chance to hang out with your idol every night, why not?

The most important thing to keep in mind when shopping for bedding is what will allow you to get the best night’s sleep – after all, how many people other than you are truly going to appreciate your new bedding?
