Coming to a MAC Counter Near You
I am not shy to say that I am a HUGE Hello Kitty/Sanrio fan. At one point several years ago I had a Hello Kitty phone, toaster, picture frames, key chain, makeup bags, etc. And it wasn’t just Hello Kitty… I remember getting for my 7th birthday a Little Twin Stars diary and that’s what sparked a love affair for many years with all the Sanrio characters.
Over the last few years there have been makeup products that Sanrio created mainly with the Hello Kitty brand, but there was never a full makeup line…until now! MAC has partnered with Sanrio to produce a full makeup line debuting in February 2009. It will be a limited-edition line, so MAC is putting together a waiting list that will go live on Jan. 7. Prices range from $11 for nail polish to $38 for an eyeshadow quad. There will also be a high-end ‘Kouture’ line that will feature a powder in a beautiful, crystallized, silver compact which will retail for $90.
The one thing about the line is that the packaging has Hello Kitty as a much more edgy, sexy character. Most of the branding for Hello Kitty has her as a white cat, whereas here she’s black. However, I like that, because it makes her much more fashion forward and appeal to a wide range of MAC customers.
