The 80’s. Madonna had a baby face. Michael Jackson was the reigning King of Pop. Neon was all the rage, and shoulder pads were not only reserved for quarterbacks, but for office ladies. And we saw that in 2008, the 80’s trends have made their way back into the national consciousness.
Here are a few examples:
Neon Clothing- You can walk into American Apparel, and see the various cotton neon t-shirts or shirt dresses that grace the racks. But unlike the 1980’s, you’re more likely to see these neon pieces as accessories, under blazers, or with skinny black jeans and understated heels. The key is making the outfit pop with an understated edge.
Leggings- Lindsay Lohan started her 6126 leggings line, and just open a copy of US Weekly to see an array of celebs wearing leggings underneath tight short dresses, with loose t-shirts, or simply with blazers and a hot pair of Jimmy Choo ankle boots. This is one style trend that is here to stay, especially in these chilly winter months.
Skinny Pants- Tight jeans are all the rage, but remember that these do look best paired with a loose, flowy top. And if your gams are your best feature, then by all means, rock it out.
The MiniDress- The Mod dress or minidress has a way of never leaving the fashion consciousness because it can be paired or accessorized in so many ways. This season, pair it with tights and flat shoes, or if you’re a bit more daring, with brightly colored tights and ankle boots.
The 80’s may have gone the way of the VHS tape, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t learn from this decade of excess and big hair.
