Invisible Braces

While braces are commonly thought of as a rite of passage many of us are forced to experience in our teenage years, more and more adults are turning to braces as the stigma seems to be decreasing.  Part of the reason that society is beginning to accept grown adults in braces is the recent invention of a number of styles of invisible braces, also known as clear braces. There are a variety of types of these invisible braces.  The most basic is similar to the traditional braces youth wear, but the multicolored brackets that were fun to select and proudly sport as a youngster have been replaced by clear ceramic brackets which are significantly less noticeable.  These invisible braces are often similar in cost to traditional braces.  For adults who still can’t bear the idea of having visible wires in their mouths, even with invisible brackets, there is another style of invisible braces that is essentially comprised of two clear trays, one that covers the upper set of teeth and one that covers the lower set of teeth.  These invisible braces are worn in a manner similar to teeth whitening trays, and in most cases they can be removed for small portions of the day, although obviously this decreasing their straightening efficiency.  For many adults with crooked teeth who were lucky enough to avoid braces the first time around or who perhaps were not diligent about wearing their retainers, invisible braces are a great way to straighten teeth without the embarrassment that traditional braces can create.
