The 40th Hong Kong Fashion Week, taking place from January 12-15, 2009 at the Hong Kong Exhibition Center, is underway which styles from Fall/Winter 2009-2010. It is the largest fashion show of its kind in Asia with over 1,400 exhibitors from 23 countries and regions from across the world.
The popularity of Hong Kong Fashion Week, shows that fashion forward buyers are increasing looking East for trends and ideas, as they’re quickly gaining a reputation as a place where trends are created and followed. With increasing exhibitors from Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, the Chinese Mainland, and Macau, along with numerous exhibitors from around the world, Hong Kong Fashion Week is not a venue to be missed. In 2008, 23, 700 buyers from 100 countries and regions came to do business at the HK Fashion Week for Fall/Winter 2008.
A popular highlight of HK Fashion Week is the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest where young, promising Hong Kong designers will present their latest creations and clothing. And of course, the most popular parts of Fashion Week are the runway shows which range from the renegade look of a young designer to the sophisticated cool of an experienced Design house. With the globalization of fashion, it is now commonplace to see a girl from Hong Kong wearing the same boho dress as a hipster in Los Feliz, but each city does offer its own unique spin on fashion.
Here are some interesting Trend highlights:
Metallic Shoes- These chunky metallic shoes are a particular favorite of mine because any fashionista would be able to take these shoes and make it work with her wardrobe.
Metallic Dresses- Metal is in, as in style with these shiny, metallic looks that add a hard edge to one’s look.
Geometrical Designs- Polka dots, stripes, and horizontal lines are all in. It’s all about mixing these designs with more solid colors. This particular dress is by South Korean designer An Yoon-Jung.
Neutral Colors- Perhaps it’s the doom of the worldwide recession, but natural, nude colors have been spotted across the runways and here in Hong Kong.
OverRolls- A way to stay warm in a chilly day? This dress should do the trick.
Mini-Dresses- An androgynous minidress can work for any occasion, and the bow embellishment adds to the allure of the dress. If you’re going to a high-style event, perhaps you can rock out this dress. Otherwise, maybe you’d like to stick to the dress, not the bow.
Hong Kong Fashion Week is still ongoing, and as one of the largest of its kind in Asia and second largest in the world, it will continue to surprise and set trends in the world of Fashion.
