The News of the World has published a picture that seems to show Beijing Olympic hero Michael Phelps taking a hit off a bong, you know, the kind that are usually filled with marijuana. If this picture really shows the winner of 14 Olympic medals doing drugs his career could sink faster than a 200 pound golden nugget.
Companies that pay athlete’s to endorse products don’t usually stick around when their star is connected to drugs, and a rule was recently passed instituting a four-year ban for athletes caught taking drugs. That means that Phelps’ hopes for more gold medals in the 2012 Olympics could be over!
The picture was allegedly taken at a house party near the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Apparently, Phelps was secretly dating a student there and showed up for a few days of debauchery in November. Like any 23-year old guy, his visit consisted of several nights filled with beers, shots and girls. Students claim that when someone handed him the bong, he took it and knew exactly how to use it.
Update: Michael Phelps has admitted that the photo accurately depicts “bad behavior”. Here is his statement:
Phelps said: “I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment. I’m 23 years old and despite the successes I’ve had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again.”

Why is this such a big deal, people need to realize smoking weed, is not that bad, just because its illegal doesn't mean its really bad, they want us to drink. Katie how is this a disgrace? the sad thing about the Phelps "pot scandal" is, that British tabloid could care less about whether or not it's wrong that Phelps smoked pot (a year ago)... they're just shooting for ratings, and unfortunately it worked

Yeah Pot is a very potent and it's an illegal substance in US. Many things been said and many opinions exist about legalizing it or not? As of right now its still an open, undecided question.
