Gwyneth Paltrow is Publishing a Cookbook

Gwyneth Partlow

When I saw that headline, my first thought was: yuck, since Gwyneth Paltrow is notorious for bizarre dieting. Don’t get me wrong, she looks great for having two kids, but really, what is a Macrobiotic Diet anyway? In my mind, I picture test tubes, beakers, flasks, scales, and multi-colored mystery liquids you inject, instead of consume.

That is of course a complete lie. A macrobiotic diet is largely vegetarian with an emphasis on whole grains (brown rice, barley, buckwheat, etc.), soy (miso, tofu, soy sauce, etc), and vegetables. Hmm… so basically your culinary lifestyle will mirror a Buddhist monk’s. On the plus side, there are hardly any restrictions, unlike Ms. Paltrow’s diet after the birth of her son.

Back in 2006, she went on some diet that had all sorts of restrictions that made no sense. For example, vegetables are a GO except tomatoes, peppers, and fruits — except bananas. Poultry and some fish are OK but swordfish isn’t. Wheat, dairy, sugar, gluten, alcohol, and red meat are banned. How confusing, how does she figure out what to eat? Oh, ya. Celebrities pay professionals to tell them when and what to eat.

Given her eating history, can you blame me for cringing when I heard about Gwennie’s cookbook? Fortunately, my imagination ran ahead of myself (again). Her royal highness Paltrow’s cookbook will emphasize on the importance of family togetherness during meals and will “omit macrobiotic food for family-friendly meals.”

Phew. Now I can sleep at night.

I think Gwyneth Paltrow can do anything she sets her mind too, and that was proven when she sang beautifully on the Duets soundrack – just read the review on EverHype (www.everhype.com/?utm_source=bc) that gave the song 3 stars. As a fan of her show with Mario Batali on PBS, this isn’t big news to me. She talked about it a bunch on the show.
