Hugh Jackman: Good Oscars Host?

By The Twirlit Team on February 25th, 2009

I have been a fan of Hugh Jackman ever since I saw him in X-Men as Wolverine. Since then I have watched every single movie he has been in. Some of my favorite movies of his are The Prestige, Deception, and Australia (yeah, I know it was not a huge hit, but he was fabulous in it).

I haven’t had an opportunity to see him on Broadway, as I know that is his true talent. So, when I heard he was hosting the Oscars, I was ecstatic. I felt it would give me a taste of his Broadway flare.

I think the show overall last night was great. The highlight was the presentation of the Best Supporting Actor/Actress and Best Actor/Actress Nominations. It was a real nice touch and a chance to pay homage to the actors that have won that category on prior Oscar ceremonies.

I thought Hugh Jackman did a great job. His opening number was fantastic and who knew Miss Hathaway had such a great voice!? The other musical number with Beyonce was alright. I would have preferred if it was Hugh with someone like Christina Aguilera, or and maybe a classic like Tony Bennett.

One thing though, I was hoping for more jokes. I know he is not a comedian per say, but he had a couple of nice jokes at the beginning and that was it.

It will be interesting to see what happens with next year’s Oscars. I’m not sure if Hugh Jackman will continue. If he does, someone needs to tell the writer to have more jokes in the script, I know Hugh can pull it off. Until next year!
