Oscar-Winning Movies Roundup
I try to make a point to see all the nominated films before the Oscars. I did pretty good except for about six or so I did not see.
For the Best Picture category, I saw every single movie. I recommend you watch all of them, particularly Slumdog Millionaire. I have to say I enjoyed The Reader, but I much preferred Benjamin Button, Milk, and Frost/Nixon instead.
For the Best Actor category, you must see The Wrestler. Mickey Rourke was absolutely fabulous and so were his co-stars in the movie, Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei. I would also highly recommend The Visitor. I didn’t know what to expect and was really moved by the story and Richard Jenkins performance.
I have to say, I only saw two movies out of the five in the Best Actress category. I must tell you, Meryl Streep’s performance in Doubt was beyond amazing. Not to mention her co-star, Viola Davis who was nominated for her supporting role, is incredible. In the next couple of weeks I am making a point to see The Changeling, Rachel Getting Married, and Frozen River.
If you are a Woody Allen fan, then you MUST see Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Penelope Cruz was fantastic and her co-star Rebecca Hall was great. Like New York is to Sex And The City, Barcelona is to this movie, a character all on it’s own.
The final movie that I need to see is Happy-Go-Lucky. The movie’s star, Sally Hawkins, won a Golden Globe for Best Actress and it has been nominated and won many awards at several international film festivals.
Get your popcorn ready and enjoy!
