The Wall Street Journal reports that designer jean brand, “Rock and Republic” an LA-based sportswear and premium denim brand, whose jean lines start at $180 will be releasing a new “Recession,” line of jeans that will retail for $130, as a response to the recent Economic crisis.

Andrea Bernholtz, president and co-founder of “Rock and Republic,” says, “We’re definitely trying to keep our costs down,” she says. “It’s a different world that we’re living in now – extravagance is vulgar at this time. People are paring down, but they’re still shopping,” This premium jeans brand that is a favorite of socialites and celebrities across the globe has been feeling the effects of the retail tailspin, as the label recently canceled its New York show and will focus on its Fall 2009 presentation in Paris during March fashion week in an effort to reach out to buyers in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

As for the Recession line of jeans, Ms. Berholtz says, “If a starting price-point of $180 is going to throw you into a tailspin and you can’t do it, then … we thought we’d take lesser margins on our end and pass that (benefit) onto the consumer,” she says. It seems as though the high times of premium fashion will be going through a freeze until this Economic crisis thaws out. Now, the real question is…when is this line coming out?
