Crazy Tech Fashion: The Lumitop

Fashion can be crazy and I consider myself pretty tolerant, but as fun as they are I don’t know that fiber optics have a place in clothing, even if you’re the clubbing type. LumiGram seems to feel differently, however, as they’ve taken a new fiber-optic-fabric technology and created a line of tee shirts and tops for both men and women (yes, this is geared to guys too!). Styles and colors vary, so if you like the look you can find something to fit your personality, including everything from skimpy crop tops to long dresses to tee shirts with words scrolling across the front. There are even pillows, curtains, and tablecloths if you’d prefer your fiber optic lights as decor instead of fashion. Color options come in the form of LED lights powered by a small battery pack, which is easily removed to make the garment washable.

These designs don’t come cheap (the top shown above costs about $188) so they aren’t exactly an impulse purchase, and I honestly can’t think of anywhere a normal person would wear clothes like this — unless you’re a performer of some sort or in the entertainment business, like a DJ at a techno club, maybe?
