Olivia of The City Speaks Out

Olivia Palermo

If you’re a fan of MTV’s “The City, ” you’ll know the evil villain of the show, Olivia Palermo, a “Social,” or Socialite.  Make sure that you get the name straight.  She’s one of the most well-known “Socials” on the New York scene and not exactly the most popular or well-liked.

Adding insult to injury is her role on “The City,” that pits wide-eyed newcomer Whitney Port against seasoned New Yorker, Olivia, during various scenes at their workplace, the famed designer, Diane Von Furstenberg or DVF.

She’s been known to take credit for Whitney’s work as well as plan events in order to embarrass those she’s invited. (Remember when she had Jay the Rocker boyfriend hired for an event and then she and her cousin mocked him the entire night)  We all know that this isn’t an actually “reality” show, and that producers create the set-up for all the characters on the show, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t an entertaining show.

Palermo recently spoke out in an LA Times interview saying, “It’s a little disappointing. I’m a much nicer person, much more laid back and relaxed, not serious like they show me. They can only use so much footage in 30 minutes so I think that they really narrow it down and sometimes it doesn’t come out exactly how I would like.”

Palermo, who was also the basis for Blair Waldorf’s character on the CW’s “Gossip Girl,” says that even though she’s not exactly thrilled with her portrayal, she plans to stay on for next season.  Her reasoning?  She says, “Once you start something, you don’t stop in the middle of it, you follow it through and you hope that it gets better and you try to learn from any mistakes. It’s a learning process.”

Looks like someone is extending her fifteen minutes.
