Milan Fashion 2009

This past Wednesday began Milan Fashion week for Autumn/Winter  2009/2010 that championed all that is fresh and exciting, even amidst the Economic gloom that has luxury brands being hit hard by the decline in retail spending.

Four young fashion designers showed off their new collections, showing that creativity is something that no recession can dampen.

23 year-old designer Alessia De Pasquale says, “Starting now is difficult..there is less demand now because of the Economic circumstances. But the fashion industry is always looking for new ideas, new talent, fresh things…It’s important to stand out.”

De Pasquale presented a menswear collection that was a modern look at the 1950′s.  Another young designer, Antonio Romano, who presented ethereal silk dresses says, “I think investing in young designers is the best recipe to beat this period.”

The key to this being that young, hungry creative people will most likely be working the hardest to show off their wares as design houses cut staff.  As even the super-rich have cut back on their usual spending on the top fashion trends of the season.

28 year old designer Marta Forghieri who added a musical element to her show by having her models wear headphones said it best, “Even in these times, you need to be determined. You have to keep doing what you do, if not, what can you do?”

Spoken like a trooper.  A fashionable one at that.
