One thing is for sure… Christian Siriano, youngest ever winner of Bravo’s “Project Runway,” talented designer, with an acid tongue to boot, is not feeling the effects of this all-encompassing recession. How could this be?
With dismal Retail forecast reports and consumers cutting back on non-essential purchases, it seems as though the Fashion industry would be at the non-receiving end of this recession. But then, Siriano who gained a huge fan following during his time on the popular show does have the skill to back up his sharp words and has dressed Kimberly Locke of American Idol, as well as outfits for British singer, Estelle. Not only that, but he’s made guest appearances on ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” as well as working his Fashion Correspondent muscles for the Emmy Awards, MTV Movie Awards, and the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.
Stores such as Intermix are expanding Siriano’s line as the numbers have shown that sales have doubled since last season. Siriano says, “The good thing about my company is it’s really small and it’s growing, and we didn’t have to lay off a bunch of employees because I don’t have a bunch of employees. It’s crazy to think. You’re like, ‘Oh my God, you doubled sales in this economy?!’ But because last season was my first real season, my sales were small because I was so new. We had a handful of really good stores, and now this season we have ten great new stores.”
One of my favorite quotes from Christian from “Project Runways,” is when he said, “I’m kind of a novelty. I’m kind of a big deal.”
Well, Christian, I guess you are.
