Every season has its beauty challenges and winter, thanks to cold air (which naturally holds less moisture) and cranked furnaces (pumping out dry heat), is all about dry skin. So if slathering on the moisturizer isn’t quite cutting it and your body is starting to feel more like it’s covered in sand paper than skin, try these tips for combating dryness by treating yourself from the inside out:
- Drink lots of water
- Make sure you get plenty of fruits and high fiber foods in your diet to help your skin appear fresh, plump, and dewy
- Avoid refined sugars, carbonated beverages, and alcohol because they’re dehydrating and will leave your skin looking dull, tired, and dry
- Avoid highly processed foods and foods loaded with preservatives
- Promote overall skin health by including skin-friendly foods like green tea (antioxidants), salmon (omega-3 fatty acids), blueberries (antioxidants and vitamin C), and carrots (vitamin A) in your diet on a regular basis.
- Eat raw foods whenever possible (and safe) to get the most nutrients and health benefits
- Exercise regularly to improve circulation (and your overall health)
- And this isn’t a food but remember to always wear sunscreen (Yes, even in the winter!)
