We’ve heard of every single diet there is out there from the Zone, Atkins, low carb, no carb, vegan, The Grapefruit diet, The Cabbage Soup diet, the Vegan diet, the no-fun diet… I could go on for days. But is it really about eliminating entire food groups in order to obtain a slim, enviable figure?
Well, maybe not. A new online study published Wednesday by the New England Journal of Medicine suggest that ANY diet that is low low in calories and saturated fats and high in whole grains, fruits and vegetables is a reasonable choice for people who need to lose weight.
What does this mean? Well, technically, you could eat the same amount of calories in junk food and still lose weight, but then you’d lost out on valuable nutrition that your body needs. This study is great for all those dieters out there who have been trying to follow rigid diet plans but continually end up giving up because they can’t stick to it. As many doctors would agree, moderation is key.
As Dr. Robert Eckel, a physiology professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center says, “This study is saying it doesn’t make any difference what diet you choose. Calories have always been the bottom line.”

i always find it interesting how complex some make dieting (and healthy eating!) to be, since when you get down to it, it's pretty simple. thanks for the reminder.

hey Jackie, yes, sometimes when I talk to my guy friends, they break this stuff down way easier than we do. They think of it as more of a project than as an emotional journey. Ya know? Thanks for commenting.
