This week Oprah decided to dedicate her shows to the issues surrounding domestic violence and violence against women. Kevin Powell, a writer and political activist will be on Oprah today talking about his experiences as former abuser and his transformation. Oprah felt so strongly about these issues, after the Chris Brown Rihanna incident, that she felt now was the best time to address it.

Kevin Powell first came on the scene as one of the original cast members on MTV’s 1st Reality Show: “The Real World New York.” He was the oldest member of the group and worked at the popular urban magazine Vibe at the time.

He’s now running for Congress in 2010 and his appearance on Oprah may just be his ticket in. The 42 year-old Powell is an accomplished public speaker and is constantly on CNN, BET and MTV drawing his perspective on social issues.

Kevin Powell will be on Thursday March 19th, check your local listings for the time and channel.

I say the more domestic abuse awareness the better - even if it is through Oprah (a woman I don't especially like). Especially after seeing how horribly some reacted to the Rihanna/Chris Brown deal. Very sad.

Yeah, the reaction to the whole case was a bit light...But I think Oprah is the perfect stage to air it out, I don't see how she could be that bad...
