A couple of months ago my friend in New York who has been blonde since I can remember told me she is going back to her natural color. I was shocked! Then she explained to me that with what’s going on with the economy she really can’t justify spending that kind of money on her hair every two months.
Well, it seems to be a major trend now. According to a study done in the UK and revealed on dailymail.co.uk, blondes are going darker or back to their natural color for two reasons, one because of the economic downturn and two to be taken more seriously on the job.
The study commission by Superdrug, a chain of drug stores in Britain, found thatĀ ’ brunettes do seem to be taken more seriously in the work place which is causing a rise in fair headed women darkening their locks.’ So it seems that it goes beyond the recession fears and it’s about one’s career. Thirty one percent of blondes went darker to appear more intelligent on the job, while thirty eight percent went darker to be taken more seriously by their boss.
It would be interesting to see if the same study done here would have the same results. I’m sure the results would differ depending upon which state you did your research. California would have much different results from New York as would Florida versus Chicago.
What do you think? Does being a blonde or brunette have any baring on your career?
