Footloose Remake – Not with Zac Efron

Since July 2007 it was announced that Zac Efron would star in the remake of Footloose. Not that I ever saw any of the High School Musical movies, but I thought Zac Efron would be a good choice for the role. Well, not anymore.

To avoid being type-cast Efron has pulled out of making this classic come to life. The people attached to producing this remake, High School Musical turned Footloose director Kenny Ortega, Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, are still committed to bringing this remake to the silver screen.

I think there are few classic movies that are successful as remakes, however this one could be very successful. I am of the generation that grew up with Footloose, Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and those movies were the defining movies of our teenage years. I think a Footloose remake would be great and considering how well High School Musical did, it’s a no brainer.

It will be interesting to see how this movie project unfolds, but hopefully Zac Efron won’t regret being attached to this film. We’ll see…
