I am a very adamant about recycling. I try and keep the general waste in my garbage at home down to minimum. I’ve even gone as far as not buying a lot of products that come in plastic bottles. However, with beauty products such as lotions, shampoos, and cleansers, they all come in plastic bottles. So here’s a breakdown of how to recycle your beauty products:
– When separating plastic, glass, and aluminum, always remove the caps. Most caps are made with a different material from the actual bottle, but you can recycle them with Aveda’s Recycle Caps program!

– Most glass can be recycled, but mirrors cannot. If you can remove the mirror before recycling the rest of the plastic packaging, great! If not, unfortunately you will have to put it in the regular garbage.
– On the bottom of most plastic bottles and containers there is a number. Number 1 and 2 are both recyclable. You can also ask your local recycling center what other types of plastic containers they will accept.
– Finally, Origins has started a wonderful recycling program called “Return to Origins”. All 130 Origins stores and 420 of their department-store counters will accept beauty products from ANY brand. The items will be either converted into energy at waste centers or turned into recycled packaging. If you bring in an empty container this month you will get a sample of an Origins A Perfect World cleanser, toner, moisturizer, or body cream.
