Jason Wu Sticks to Fashion
Jason Wu, the 26 year old fashion wonderkid, who had the honor dressing First Lady Michelle Obama for the Inauguration of President Obama. He spoke to the UK’s Grazia Fashion and stated that he plans to stick to fashion and his line, even amongst all the various media opportunities that are coming his way. This includes various books as well as a reality TV show about his life in the fashion world.
Wu says that he prefers designing for women who have real bodies and curves saying, “I’ve never been trendy and I don’t design trendy things. I design for real women, older women with feminine bodies. And I want my pieces to be relevant in 30 years’ time.”
He still seems modest and in awe of the life-changing nature of having First Lady Michelle Obama wear his dress for such a historic event. He says, “The reaction has been incredible. I’ve gone from being a designer known just by those in the know in New York to a global name.”
Only a month before at New York Fashion Week, Jason Wu showed off his collection, calling it “Not bubbly or cute. But very grown-up.” Wu is known for his romantic dressed with a couture-like quality and it looks as though his unique take on women’s fashion is here to stay.
