Josh Schwartz, writer/producer of hit TV shows such as “The OC” and the CW’s “Gossip Girl,” is behind the new Web series called “Rockville, CA,” that will be exclusively shown on thewb.com. The series takes place in Los Angeles and shows the world of the music scene revolving around indie bands, record labels and the annoying power of music bloggers to make or break careers.
Of course, there is a young, good-looking cast and a host of actualy indie bands that will make up a signficant portion of the web-only series including Nico Stai, Kaiser Chefs, and the Kooks.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Josh Schwartz discussed his new series in which they shot 20 episodes plus the band performances in three weks. This show, about a group of young, hot regulars at a Los Angeles alternative club called “Rockville CA,” is being heavily promoted and best of all, has music with up and coming bands.
Schwartz cites the creative freedom that he got from working on this web series that was unlike other scripted shows that he’s worked on for TV because more of his creative vision was realized. No notes from Studio executives and he was able to cast whoever he wanted.
This show, debuting on March 17, on theweb.com looks promising. We’ll see if audiences feel the same way.
