Redecorating? Hot Paint Colors for 2009!

Does your home need a little pick-me-up or even a full-on update to modern styles?  If you are planning on painting the outside or inside of your house this year, keep these paint color trends in mind:

Interior paint color trends:

• Purple is very in this year, but it is very easy to go overboard with purple and end up with an eyesore of a room, so be very careful when painting with purple.  Go for a light purple or lavendar, and offset the purple with white or gray to minimize the impact.
• Bright colors such as coral can also be fabulous when offset with a neutral such as gray, white, or brown.
• Try mixing calm colors such as pale blue or gray with unique textures (think curtains or funky wall hangings) to really punch up a wall.

Exterior paint color trends:

• For exterior color, it is key to note the colors of your neighbors’ homes.  If you’ve seen the movie ‘Fools Rush In’ you probably remember the shock of Salma Hayek’s brightly colored house between all of the stucco-colored homes.  If there is some variance among the house colors of your neighbors, you have more room to go outside the box.
• If you don’t want to be over the top, try painting the majority of your house a neutral color but using a brighter color (dark red or light green) to paint shutters, doors, etc.
