Diane von Furstenberg is a fashion icon.  Point blank.  She was among the first female fashion designers to bring affordable, stylish clothing for the contemporary woman. Her first revolutionary piece was the wrap dress that allowed a multitude of women to feel sexy, but still professional enough for the workplace.

Born to successful Jewish parents in Brussels, Belgium,  von Furstenberg learned about strength from her mother, a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp.  She also studied Economics at the University of Geneva before deciding that she wanted to work in the world of Fashion.

After she spent time working on her designs from home, Diane von Furstenburg was told by friends that she should put together her first collection which proved to be a hit.  Soon after, she designed the wrap dress that became a favorite among women and fashion critics across the world for its simple, sexy design.  And to this day, she is a tour de force in the world of fashion and design, even making appearances on MTV’s “The City.”

In the season finale, von Furstenberg also dishes out a bit of wisdom to the show’s protagonist, Whitney Port saying, “The most important relationship you have in life is with yourself because no matter what you will always be with yourself.”  Wisdom and knowledge ooze from Diane and she sums up her life in a sentence, “I lived the American dream, I made money, I made children, I became famous, and I dressed everybody in America.”

Yeah, she rocks.
