american-civic-association

A shooting at the American Civic Association building in the suburb of Binghamton, NY leaves 12 dead and many more injured as gunmen took 41 people hostage. Two suspects are were seen being taken in handcuffs from the murder scene.

The gunman arrived on the scene at around 10:35am ET and barricaded the exit doors, before ambushing the front. Police believe that this was no random act and that gunman had a plan all along. Schools and apartment buildings all around the area were being evacuated as the hostage situation continued for hours.

The gunman started releasing hostages around noon, but police reported that shootings had already occurred. The American Civic Association, which assists immigrants in everything from citizenship to interpreters, has never seen anything like this.

Local residents are deeply saddened by the tragic events today and Governor David Paterson of New York had this to say “I speak for all of New York when I offer my prayers for the victims and families of this tragedy.”
