American Idol – Final 8 Perform

Yeah, it’s Tuesday – American Idol is on tonight!  It always brings a little excitement to the day.  Partly because I’m in an American Idol pool this year (in which I currently hold second place by 1 point), and partly because I can’t wait to see what Adam will do this week (coincidentally I picked him to win in my American Idol pool :)   After seeing various tweets from the east coast viewers, I poured myself a glass of wine, lit a fire, sent the kids to bed and settled in for the final 8.  Here’s what I think:

Danny Gokey went first, singing “Stand By Me”.  He is always such a cutie, it started off a little slow but it picked up and he did a pretty good job.  He’s just starting to seem a little predictable, with each week sounding like the last.

Kris Allen was next, followed by Lil’ Rounds.  Kris sang “All She Wants To Do Is Dance”, and sadly, it did NOT make me want to dance.  It just seemed like a really slow arrangement, although he played his guitar and looked like a little cutie.  The judges weren’t too into it either, so I guess I know what I’m talking about!

After clearing up the fact that Lil, was in fact her real name, Lil sang Tina Turner‘s “What’s Love Got To Do With It”.  Ummm, I like Lil, and I have her coming in at number 3 in my pool, so I need her to do well, but….she’s no Tina Turner.  The judges were less than thrilled with her performance as well.  It’s sad because I can tell she’s really trying, and she started off the competition strong, she’s just fizzling out.

Anoop Desai was up next.  Okay, I’ll be honest, I really need Anoop to go home this week to possibly propel me into the coveted first place in my American Idol pool.  He sang, Cyndi Lauper‘s “True Colors”…. zzzzzzz, oh, um….okay, that was boring.  Hmmmm, first place could be in my future!  Wait, WTF?  Randy liked it, Kara liked it, Paula liked it….and Simon?  I don’t agree!

Scott MacIntyre performed “The Search Is Over”, shockingly he wasn’t behind the piano, not shockingly he performed another old grandpa song.  He played the guitar, but….NO, didn’t work for me AT ALL!  The judges weren’t too excited with the performance either, with Simon saying, “I would suggest you go back to the piano next week”.

Next up was Allison Iraheta performing “I Can’t Make You Love Me”.  Allison is one of the few that I’m always excited to see what she’ll do, and she did not disappoint.  I love the tone of her voice and it fit the song perfectly (wow, I sound just like Paula!).  The judges unanimously gave her good marks too, with Randy saying, “you’re one of the best of the night”.

Matt Giraud was next with his performance of “Part Time Lovers”.  I thought it was a good song choice and he did a good job, he definitely got Paula dancing.  Randy said he was also “one of the best of the night”, and the other judges gave him glowing reviews as well.

The final performace was Adam Lambert singing “Mad World”.  (Good thing I wasn’t behind, since the show ran over and Adam’s performance would have been cut off by Tivo).  Loved the song choice, any song that is somewhat current and not from the 50′s gets bonus points.  He put his usual unique spin on the song and I LOVED it!  Not his best performance ever, but great!  Simon even gave him a standing ovation – haven’t seen that before!

Now, it’s up to the viewers, who will leave this week?
