You may have heard the pop hit “American Boy,” with Kanye West and the new sultry voice of Estelle Swaray, Grammy-winning, British soul singer who made her way across the pond to the American masses.

She recently wrote the song “Star,” for Crystal Light and says that the song is about not listening to anyone who says you can’t do something.  I love the message of the song as well as being obsessed with Crystal Light lemonade. I drink it all the time and I’ve fooled myself into thinking its better for me than diet soda.

Estelle is actually from West London and she says, “Music was my escape. Roots reggae, dub, pop, hip hop.  I was inspired by it all.”  She  also says that her musical influences include Mary J. Blige, Aerosmith, Ella Fitzgerald, and Guns N’ Roses.

She’s among many musicians who are working with advertisers to no only get their music out there but also increase the brand reach.  In these changing times, its necessary for musicians to be creative and flexible with how they do so.

As for Estelle, she focuses on her music mostly, saying, “There’s more to life than just taking what someone gives you. Take chances, just always be yourself.”

Very true.  I need to go drink some Crystal Light now.
