Green is the new black, there’s no doubt about that, but can you say you’re truly “in fashion” and solidly riding the eco-friendly bandwagon? If you feel like you could be doing more, but have no time and no idea where to start, check out this list of 25 easy ways you can start living a greener life today.

  1. Wash your clothes in cold or warm water instead of hot
  2. Start drinking more tap water
  3. Reduce junk mail by going to catalogchoice.org
  4. Fix leaky faucets (1 drip can waste up to 20 gallons per day!)
  5. Keep bugs away from stored clothes with rosemary or pine sachets instead of toxic mothballs
  6. Start taking showers instead of baths
  7. Better yet, start showering with your partner
  8. Use a reusable coffee cup at work
  9. Go to a professional car wash instead of doing it yourself in the driveway
  10. Download software instead of buying discs
  11. Buy e-tickets for flying
  12. Find a reusable shopping bag you like and USE IT
  13. Use a lint brush to freshen up clothes instead of sticky tape rollers
  14. Get a cloth (or PVC-free) shower curtain
  15. Use cotton swabs with a paper-based spindle
  16. Use rechargeable batteries
  17. Pay bills online
  18. Stop paper bank statements and bank online
  19. Use cruise control to improve fuel efficiency
  20. Turn your thermostat up 1 degree in the summer and down 1 degree in the winter
  21. Only grab one napkin at a time from the restaurant dispenser
  22. Skip rinsing dishes before putting them in the dishwasher
  23. Instead of opening the door, look through the oven window to check on food
  24. Don’t linger with the refrigerator door open
  25. Plant a tree (everybody says it but how many actually do it?)
