Like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler is one of those funny women who can make an Audience crack up whether they’re watching her improv shows at Upright Citizens Brigade, her skits on Saturday Night Live, or in the movie theater as she pulls crazy antics in feature films like last year’s hit, “Baby Mama,” in which she played a zany, immature surrogate mother to Tina Fey’s child.
Well, she’s starring in a new NBC show entitled, “Parks and Recreation,” in which she plays Leslie Knope, the deputy director for the Pawnee Indiana Parks Department. Here’s her character description from NYMag.com,
“Knope is an idealistic, hopeful, and endlessly optimistic do-gooder who honestly believes that government can make the world a better place.”
So instead of rapping out lyrics with Gov. Sarah Palin, Poehler will be playing the boss of this Parks and Recreation office with employees that you may recognize such as Rashida Jones (formerly of “The Office”) and Aziz Ansari. (MTV’s Human Giant)
The show will be about people working for the government so expect lots of idealistic wannabe politicians and do-gooders. And of course, there’s Amy Poehler, the show’s biggest name, and a lot is riding on her shoulders for the success of this new comedy.
But co-creator Michael Schur has faith in Poehler’s comedic abilities and the show. He says, ” “Since 1997, when I first moved to New York and first saw Amy Poehler perform, I have thought she was the funniest person I’d ever met. My goal and dream of this show was to provide a showcase for her abilities. If it works and she gets to play this character for a long time, I will have done my job.”
Can’t wait to see the premiere.

I’m a bigger fan of Tina, tbh, but this looks great. Plus with Rashida Jones & Aziz Ansari on the list? Forget about it
hey Sam, yeah, I’m all for smart, funny shows. Thanks for commenting.
