Scott MacIntyre Heads Home On American Idol

Stepping out from behind the piano proved too big a risk for Scott MacIntyre who was voted off of American Idol last night.  His performance of “The Search is Over” was pretty lackluster and did not garner good reviews from the judges.

On the results show, which featured appearances from Frankie Avalon and Kelly Pickler, Ryan revealed the bottom three to be Scott MacIntyre, Anoop Desai and Lil Rounds.  Simon revealed that the judges may be open to saving “one contestant in particular”.  The three were left to sit in suspense until Ryan finally revealed that Lil Rounds was safe, leaving Anoop and Scott to sweat it out.

Ryan finally revealed that Scott received the lowest number of votes, and would be leaving the show, barring any “save” by the judges.  Scott performed his song, minus the electric guitar that he had played during the performance show.  I thought he sounded somewhat better than the night before, and the judges appeared to agree as they spent some time debating whether to save Scott.  Simon revealed that it was a very tough decision and that two of the judges wanted to save him, and two did not”.  After some back in forth, and sweating on Scott’s part, Simon said, “all right someone’s got to make a decisions, Scott the road ends here for you tonight”.

And, with that Scott was the sixth contestant to leave the final 13 this season.  Through tears, Paula made sure to praise Scott for overcoming his blindness and becoming a talented singer.

  1. Since they’ve added a fourth judge, I’ve always wondered how they break ties? Does Simon just get the final say? Seems like it.
