Have you seen that Tampax commercial where this slightly annoying woman will interrupt the conversations of other women and tell them that she has a monthly gift to give them? I find those commercials to be hilarious because they’re so spot-on. I think every woman has experienced days when you wished your montly gift would freaking disappear because you’re immediately wanting more sweets, are more irritable and yes, you want to do a little retail therapy.
Anyway, the Daily Mail reports that a study by psychologists at Herfordshire University revealed that there’s a link to your time of the month and your shopping habits. The study revealed that shopping sprees were how you deal with the “Intense emotions of pre-menstrual syndrome.”
Professor Karen Pine, who conducted the study said, “The later women were in their menstrual cycle, the more likely they were to have overspent. The spending behavior tends to be a reaction to intense emotions. They are feeling very stressed or depressed and are more likely to go shopping to cheer themselves up and using it to regulate their emotions.”
Interesting information, but in these Economic times, it might make more sense for you to reign in those spending urges and do something else that releases the intense emotions. Granted, you don’t want to inhale an entire pint of Ben n’ Jerry’s, but don’t kill yourself for having some chocolate.
Guys are lucky they don’t have to deal with this, don’t you agree?
