I’m a devout born again Christian, stopped having children after two and I won’t apologize for it. I think to each his own, as long as the Duggars can and will care for their children then I support them KD it use to be just Jim Bob and Michelle with a bunch of little ones so they can do it. But I think sometimes they get a bit to dependant of their older ones…I could be wrong. I think though they’ve raised confidant strong children who will do well when out on their own if they choose to. I’ve been around adults who couldn’t problem solve to save their lives and they weren’t as sheltered.

They take good care of all of thier children and the older ones are more reliable and mature than most kids thier age. They almost always buy used and never use food stamps or well fair. They have a happy Christian home and change that for no one and the show is not trying to show everyone to have 15/20 kids but just that all homes need rules, structure, love, and faith. A home that prays together stays together. These children not only have respect for thier elders and parents but for each other. They are more respectable of thier bodies than many of us, because they keep them covered only to be seen by thier spouse.

I feel that as long as they are taking care of there children and not asking the government to take over it shold be up to them how many children they have and also michelle did use birth control once and got pregneant anyway and lost the baby that is why she don’t use birth control now she feels that it is her fault that her baby died and they decided after that they would have as many children as the lord would give them they have never tried to make it that no one was allowed to use birth control that is there own personal convition

for anyone whom does not know this the duggars are debt free and have always been that way they own a lot of houses and comercial buildings and a towning company and a couple minnie markets and a used car lot they buy used and save the differance they shope at aldies food store witch is a discount food store and they never buy new so befor ya juge someone do your homework and they have never collected welfare and don’t encouiage there children eather as a matter of fact a few of there kids of working age have jobs working for some of the family buisnesses.

Oh, and Susan……why is it crazy to have your tubes tied? Mine are, simply because to become pregnant, would kill me.

I want to know why a pharmacist, who does not know me, has the right to decide whether he feels it is moral to fill my BC. My BC prescription controls hormonal imbalances, and without it my body is miserable…..yet I have so called, “upstanding christians”, yelling that I am the spawn of the devil for taking it. Explain that to me.

My problem with religious nuts, is that they all seem intent on telling me what I can or can not do. They can have their side of the pond, I simply do not care….but it turns deeply personal for me when I am called a whore, or spawn of satan for simply having a tattoo….or daring to believe something that runs contrary to what they believe. The college I choose was a religious college, but had a great art program, so I accepted their bid….and I regretted every moment of it. I was harassed for my beliefs, for not attending church every waking moment, for having a freaking fairy sticker on my bumper. It didn’t matter that I didn’t shout my beliefs to the sky, that all I wanted was to be left alone. I was different, and thus was a danger.

I think Christians should practice what they preach, and have a bit of tolerance. Everything is good, until you clash with their world view…and then you’re the enemy. Live and let live…as in you live your way, and I mine.

Kattyone, it appears that you missed the intended meaning in my earlier post. I was not commenting on their “carbon foot prints”. If the parents are able to handle their 19 children (well, 18 at home) without relying on constant assistance from their older children; then it is up to them how many children they choose to have. However, after seeing episodes where the parents appear to have a difficult time maintaining control of all of their children while still being able to provide each child with enough one on one time with each parent – it raises doubts in my mind as to if they have the best interest of their children at heart when they continue to have more children; without ensuring that they and they alone are able to meet the physical and emotional needs of the children they already have (without the continuing assistance of their older children, friends and family members). I give them credit that, thus far, their older children have remained at home to help with the younger ones and that they have children that seem to be fairly well adjusted (although they are extreamly sheltered from the aspects of the real world). However; should one of their future children (Josie for example) have ongoing medical concerns, I fear that the rest of their children will suffer as a result of the additional attention and effort which will need to be focused on one child.

I really think you have missed the point from recent discussion. While most of the earlier posts have been directed at criticism about their “carbon foot prints” and such, the recent have been about their ability to responsibly parent. I know that I personally have said, and believe, that it is irresponsible to keep putting yourself in obviously dangerous (see most recent birth of Josie) situations when you have so many young children to parent. What would they do without a mom? This is the same point that goes for drug addicted parents, etc.
Also, if you are saying they buy it all at thrift stores, you need to watch a current show, then go to Target. Most of the family, especially the younger children, are not wearing things from thrift stores, obviously, because its still on sale (full price) in the store. Just a point. If you have a problem with how they are being criticized, I wouldn’t criticize about other people’s “spoiled brats”; I do not believe that chosing to have 3 children who you can raise to be well adjusted, faithful, and responsible people is wrong, and you have no right to assume that they may be brats.

If you all are so worried about overpopulation then I suggest that you adopt instead of having your own children. Also instead of criticizing the self supporting Duggars for having children why don’t you vent on the drug addicts having heroin and crack addicted babies, alcoholics producing brain damaged sociopaths and illegal aliens draining our social security, welfare and health care system. Also the Duggars buy most if not all of their clothing from thrift stores, if you are so worried about the earth’s resources, I bet a look in your closet, your children’s closets, toy collection and your home would be interesting. I also think most of the criticism comes from either people who do not have children or those who are raising spoiled, narcissistic brats. Brats who think the world owes them a living and that they are entitled to do anything they want. This comes from the same narcissistic parents who actually do very little parenting and certainly do not teach their children any values.

I give the Duggars some credit that their children are as well adjusted as they are, although I fear their children will have a difficult time adapting to life in the “real” world as currently they lead an extreamly sheltered existance. If anyone watched the episode where the older girls went to help Anna with the wedding plans, however, the parents had a difficult time both caring for and controling their brood of children. I am not against abortion as I feel it is the choice every couple should make together. I do feel that all parents should make the informed decision to only have as many children as they THEMSELVES are able to care for without relying on day to day support from their older children just so that they can continue to (recklessly) produce more children. Truley, in North America, they make you license your pets and LIMIT the quantity you are permitted in a general household without being granted permits, licenses & routine inspections… in a situation with a family having this many offspring in one household, they should be upheld to the same standards. If the older children were to decide tomorrow that they were going to move out & share their own residence away from their parents and younger siblings, I don’t know if the Duggar parents would be able to provide the kind of care (both mentally and physically) that their children require and deserve.

I appologize, I did not mean Anna I meant Michelle. It seems to me that Anna thinks he Mother-in-Law is, well, looking out for fame at this point more then children–at least that’s how I have perceieved the last few of her interviews saying things such as “we don’t feel the need to have a child every year, or to set any kind of record” with an awkward smile.
Also, note the family has always professed to “buy used save the difference”. But, all of the clothes your children, especially the younger ones, I can still buy in stores right now. Those really used?

Wow ! February 2010, & this forum / blog keeps rolling on. I’m kind of surprised, but not completely.

The idea that Anna may be endangering herself for the ” gift ” of having another child is valid, too, but if she wants to bring more little ” soldiers for God ”
( Which appears to be their MO ) into the world to convert them thar heatherns – i.e., the rest of us – that’s her call.
As she grows older & keeps on having kids, the chances do increase that she might have a child with Down’s Syndrome or Autism / Asperger’s as well.

This family is a true representation of good people to support themselves. They are successfully spiritually, emotionally, and financially. Why would anyone criticize them? I admire them. More of us should strive to be just like them.

Ya try 19 now. I definitely think they need to stop. That is way too many children for anyone to have. Their older children are taking care of the younger ones. There are way too many for the parents alone to handle. I think it is a terrible thing to be showing on television for other people.
