Eliot Spitzer Talks About His Gremlins

Disgraced Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer was the toast of New York City as he took on abuses of power by the Wall Street Honchos, before he was taken down by a prostitution scandal with a high-end call girl in March of 2008.  He resigned shortly thereafter, with his solemn-looking wife by his side.

Ashley Dupre, the call girl in question, has since attempted to begin a music career and also gone public with her side of the story.  Since his resignation, Spitzer has almost completely disappeared from the public landscape and most recently appeared on NBC’s “Today” Show with Matt Lauer discussing his “Gremlins” as well as his thoughts on our recent Economic crisis.

Spitzer said “I’ve tried to think about it deeply, address it. There are no excuses. I have tried to address these gremlins, confront them.”

I was but a child when this film came out, but the Gremlins that Spitzer is referring to probably are not furry creatures with names such as “Gizmo.”  It’s an interesting choice of words for the former Governor who did seem repentant as he spoke to Matt, saying, “What I did was an egregious violation of trust to my family, to my colleagues, to the state, and I’ve paid a price, and appropriately so.”

It is a shame, considering that with Spitzer’s knowledge and expertise as the “Sheriff of Wall Street,” we sure could use him right now.

  1. I can’t believe this guy actually decided to show his face again. I would have thought him and his family would be at some far off island enjoying being out of the media.
