Kris Allen Sings Falling Slowly on American Idol

American Idol is a show that is all about interaction.  Audience interaction.  And that means that the more the audience knows and likes the song that one of the performers is singing, the better the chances that they will whoop and holler for the performer.  And what singer wouldn’t love that?

Well, yesterday, Kris Allen took a chance at a not-so-popular song called “Falling Slowly,” from the Irish indie hit film, “Once,” that came out in 2007 and was written/directed by John Carney.  The film was beloved by critics and took home the 2007 Independent Spirit Award for Best Foreign Film.  Also the singers of “Falling Slowly,” Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008.

Watching Kris with his boyish good looks and earnest singing, I felt just like most of the female audience members who were probably swooning.  This sweet song was definitely an unexpected choice for Allen and though Randy Jackson later said that Allen’s voice was too pitchy for him, Kara Dioguardi said that it was one of his best moments.

I’m pretty sure that having an American Idol contestant sing “Falling Slowly,” should revv up more interest in the gorgeous and melodic song.  Come to think of it, I want it on my ipod.

  1. Honestly, what season are we at with American Idol…How is the American public not protesting the show yet. I think they’ve more than outstayed there welcome.

  2. I have this song that Kris sang on my iPod and it’s damn good! Sounds better on my iPod than how it sounded over the TV. I’ve never heard the song before (guess I didn’t see the movie).. but I love it!!! I was hoping Adam would make Idol winner this year up to the last couple of nights..then I realized just how good Kris is..he’s an musician..some can just sing..while others can sing and make music too. And, that’s real talent!
