In case your interested in purchasing a “slice” of history, Princess Louise’s 1871 wedding cake will be up for auction at the Antiques for Everyone fair in Birmingham. Starting off at $215 (or 145 Pounds), the slice of cake is the only remaining item from the historical Princess Louise and Marquis of Lorne wedding in 1871. This wedding was a huge deal at the time, because Princess Louise went against royalty rules and married a commoner.
The cake itself is quite massive. It took 3 months to create and weiged over 220lbs. The slice they will be selling is wrapped in parchment paper and has been kept in tact for the past 138 years. That itself seems like an accomplishment. I can’t imagine what a 138 year-old slice of cake would like.
John Shepard is the antique seller of the cake. He had orginally purchased the slice from a direct descendant of the noble family from Kent. Shepard enjoys collecting odd history memorabilia and takes pride in its history.

I think they should put this piece of cake on Fear Factor. The winner who eats it should be rewarded 100,000. That would be amazing!
A wedding cake that withstands the test of time… I wonder if it’s still tastes good?
