Hair extensions aren’t just for people anymore, as Australian photographer Julian Wolkenstein and stylist Acacio de Silva have made a vision of horses with human hairdo’s come to life. From corn rows to flirty curls to barrettes, these animals have it all going on.
Done purely as an artistic endeavor meant to be nothing but entertaining and fun, the idea originated with Julian who had a friend that thought it would be interesting to photograph horses with “big hair.”
After several months of casting horses and working on other preparations, each individual animal then needed a full day for shooting. It took about 4 hours to groom and add hair extensions to their manes, and then of course time to style the new hair into different personalities. The horses apparently loved the brushing and physical attention, but weren’t so crazy about the lights and cameras everywhere.
So why go to all this effort for a few pretty horse pictures? Julian prefers to ask ‘why not,’ aiming simply to make people smile and do something unexpected. And I have to say I think he certainly did both.

Really…This is unbelievable! I would never think to stylize a horses hair.
