Oprah Joins Twitter!

Oprah Winfrey. The one woman media machine who when she’s not busy inspiring people, starting schools in Africa, and running her TV Show, radio show, and production company, is giving away cars to unsuspecting Audience members. Yes, I’m a Oprah fan, and am one of those women who watches her show, reads Oprah.com, and yes, I read “O” magazine.  But I’m not alone.  Oprah’s reach and influence can bring attention to a service or product because she’s not driven by profit.  Instead, she’s driven by what drives her and what she actually likes and thinks will help/inform others.

So, when she joined Twitter, Oprah caused a firestorm of activity amongst the Twitter-verse as well as bloggers actross the world as they rushed to follow her.  Her first Tweet was on Friday morning at 7:10 AM PDT and was also criticized for being in all CAPS. A no-no for Twitter users.

“HI TWITTERS . THANK YOU FOR A WARM WELCOME. FEELING REALLY 21st CENTURY.”

Ashton Kutcher who recently became the first twitter user to reach 1 million followers, gave Oprah a Hello Tweet.  As she’s been adding followers at a furious pace, I don’t think it will be much longer before she surpasses Ashton.

She is Oprah, after all.  Her participation in Twitter shows that this micro-blogging site is more popular than ever.  And to those lucky folks that Oprah tweets about, get ready for some hard-core attention.
