Asleep in the Bread Aisle With Asher Roth

Rapper Asher Roth of “I Love College” fame will be dropping his new album today “Asleep in the Bread Aisle.” The 23 year-old Eminem-esque rapper has been catching a lot of buzz after performances at MTV’s Spring Break and South By Southwest. In what could be the 2nd coming of Slim Shady, the Pennsylvania native seems to have been accepted by the hip-hop community and is looking to score big with his debut.

Dropping on 4/20, Roth felt it was symbolic to release his debut album on such an important day. In an interview with MTV Roth noted that he wanted to expand his fan base to no just hip-hop, but all genres of music fans: “People need to understand that people have iPod Shuffles nowadays. When you go through people’s iPods, it’s not just hip-hop, it’s not just jazz, it’s not just rock — there are all types of music.”

In a time when buying a CD seems like a waste of time and money, Asher Roth needs more than just a solid fan base to rise to super stardom. With album sales continously on the decline, Roth could turn some heads if he’s able to sell a couple hundred thousand. May be even put pressure on his predecessor Eminem, who’s album Relapse drops May 18th.
