The Shaving Pedestal: Great or Gimmick?

Women the world over know what a hassle shaving our legs can be, plus in plenty of cases it’s also a real safety issue. Most of us regularly find ourselves balancing precariously on one leg while awkwardly trying to reach our ankles with a razor and perching our toes on a nearby shampoo ledge or shower handle.

This shaving pedestal and razor holder that we recently came across over at Apartment Therapy is a product that’s supposed to make the whole process go a lot smoother (pun intended), although I’m not sure I’m buying it. It might prove useful if you have a shower with absolutely no shelves or handles in it whatsoever, but that’s a rare situation. I fail to see what this pedestal thingie offers that the average shower shelf doesn’t… it looks as slippery and inconvenient as ever. What about a nice place to sit down? A non-slip surface? Maybe a bright overhead light so we can easily see any missed spots?

I like it that somebody out there is working to make our shaving lives easier, but although this is a nice effort I think they could do better.
