For Taylor Momsen, Art Imitates Life

On the CW’s “Gossip Girl,” Taylor Momsen plays Jenny Humphrey, who started out as the shy cool-girl wannabe from Brooklyn, and eventually made her way into a budding fashion designer with trendy clothes and a new attitude to boot.

Well, it looks like her fashion design aspirations aren’t relegated to her Gossip Girl character. Taylor Momsen is also a singer/songwriter for the band Pretty Reckless and she’s designer her tour wardrobe.

Momsen tells NYMag, “I’m actually designing all of my costumes. It’s a rock band,
so there’s not costume changes but there’s definitely a look,” She’ll be creating the clothing with designer Jen Kao, but will most likely be focusing on her acting/singing career.

In the show, Taylor as Jenny Humphrey figures out her creative talents as a designer for Eleanor Waldorf’s line and even contemplates being emancipated from her father to pursue her fashion design goals. Perhaps these fictional goals somehow inspired Taylor to design threads of her own.

Regarding her band, The Reckless, Taylor tells Teen Vogue that she doesn’t exactly know how to classify the sound of the band and says that she writes the songs, plays the guitar , and oversees the process.

Sounds like another interesting plot twist for Jenny Humphrey.
