Miss Universe is the creme de la creme of beauty pageants. If there is such a thing. And judges base their decisions on the contestant’s looks, swimsuit appearance, and talent.
Well, parading around in a bikini is pretty normal for most of these Miss Universe contestants, but one particular contestant caught the attention of the world media when she showed off her skinny figure in the Australia finals for the Miss Universe pageant. Stephanie Naumoska, 19, is gorgeous, but is also thin to the point of looking as though she suffers from anorexia. At 5′10”, Naumoska has a Body Mass Imdex of 15.1, which by the World Health Organization standards, is undernourished.
Weight is and has always been a touchy issue in the world of fashion and beauty pageants, especially after a young girl model died after suffering from anorexia. Though public outrage occurred after the incident, the issue of too-thin models and fashion figures still rages on. And with Miss Universe as the ultimate beauty pageant in which young girls strive to be like their role models, the issue of how skinny is too skinny is something that will not go away any time soon.
When pageant officials were asked why Miss Naumoska was allowed to be a part of the Miss Universe pageant with her low weight, one official replied, “She’s Macedonian.”
There are definitely girls who are naturally very thin, but in this case, it makes sense that people are concerned for this young woman. What is alarming is that we live in an era where pre-teen girls start dieting at the age of 10 years old, and having images like this in the media, only serve to foster an unrealistic image in their minds.

Miss Australia-Universe contestant looks just fine. Some people look good with a little more meat on their bones and others look good on the thinner side, and Miss Australia looks very sexy.! Usually, it's the overweight people who have a problem with the underweight. And they need to get a life.!

Hey Marc, you know, I grew up with friends who suffered from anorexia so I know first hand what it can do to you, your body, and your friends/family. There are definitely people who are naturally tiny, but there are also girls out there who starve themselves to the point of having to go to the hospital. Very sad.

I am soooo sick of people calling out celebrities and other people (like me) for being too skinny. Yes there are some out there who have an eating problem but there are also people out there (believe it or not) who are just skinny. Both my mom and my dad were skinny and there is hardly anyone in my family whose not. It just happens to be the way we are. I would give anything to put a little more meat on my bones so people would stop telling me to go eat a sandwich or asking me if I'm anorexic. I'm so F-ing sick of it. You know how you can tell if someone truly has an eating problem? If they have an eating problem their checks are hollow this models face is not hollow. By the way if anyone out there is jealous of people like this for some reason, please don't be. You have no idea how hard it is to have people ridiculing you all the time. I think that people who are overweight feel the same way with everyone criticizing them too. It seems people are only happy with you if you have that so called perfect hour-glass figure. I wish people would just forget about how fat or skinny someone is because not everyone can have that perfect figure that everyone seems to think you should have. Anyway I just had to get that of my sadly non existent chest.
