On a recent shopping excursion, (Okay, I was eye-shopping) I’ve been noticing that there are more structured looks going on as well as blatant 80′s throwbacks in the world of fashion. A mix of the fitted man suits that are form-fitted to a woman’s body, with a boyfriend jacket and skinny pants.
From Stella McCartney to the racks of H&M, the look of the Professional woman is that of a slim suit that is a nod to the fashion of the late 1980′s. Gone are the ostentatious billowy work dresses and suits, and it seems as though the look is more modest. As we know by now, fashion does seem to reflect the times. And for now, that look is the boyfriend suit.
Is this a nod to female power or just the trends circling around again as fashion has a tendency to do? Well, maybe a bit of both. Also, as our budgets shrink, we’re probably looking for new ways to wear current pieces. So, with a boyfriend jacket, you can pair it with some loose-fitting shorts, a minidress, or just a pair of skinny jeans. Each look is quite different and you can dress it down for work or dress it up for a night out on the town.
This is one versatile trend that would look good on any woman.
