The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced early this morning a nationwide recall for the popular weight loss pill Hydroxycut. The reason for the recall is a recent finding that the diet pill can cause liver damage and other health problems. FDA officials are recommending Hydroxycut users to refrain from using the product immediately.
Popularized earlier this decade as a natural (all natural ingredients) and nutritional weight loss supplement, Hydroxycut was known for it’s alleged ability to help you lose weight and gain muscle definition. However studies to the pill’s effectiveness have thus far proven inconclusive.
I have to say, this news comes as more than a little unsettling and unnerving as Hydroxcut as been around since 2002 and has proved to be incredibly popular, selling over 1 million bottles per year. In fact it’s been so popular it’s been able to effectively corner the market on weight loss supplements, controlling just over 90% of the available market. The fact that FDA officials are just NOW discovering it’s negative effects makes for a scary precedent for other weight loss supplements.
Which I suppose is just as good, as a pill that makes you lose weight has always been too good to be true.
