The World’s Oldest Dog likes multi-grain pasta and chicken, wears doggie goggles and gets cold easily. Her name is Chanel and she’s almost 21 years old which translates into almost 120 in human years. Chanel who is a Dachshund mix was on NBC’s Today Show this morning as she is officially the world’s oldest dog, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
Her owner, Denice Shaughnessy, has been through her share of hardship as she was a single mother and U.S. solider 21 years ago when she went to a local animal shelter to find a dog for her daughter, Latoya. She ended up paying $25 for Chanel and through life’s turmoils whether it was financial problems, her house burning down, or other hardships, Shaughnessy, La Toya, and Chanel managed to make it through.
Chanel wears booties to protect her limbs, has two beds which she alternates between, and has various sweaters and t-shirts because she’s sensitive to the weather and tends to get chilly easily. Watching this adorable dog on the Today Show who was originally a rescue dog makes me miss my old dog who passed away when I was a kid.
A dog really is a person’s best friend as nothing compares to those droopy eyes and happy bark when they see you coming through the front door.
