Odd Day

odd-day-1

It’s Odd Day. Yes, its 5/7/09 which means there are three consecutive odd numbers that make up the date.  This happens only 6 times per century which is why this is quite a huge deal for all the numbers lovers out there.  So basically, get out your inner math nerd and get excited folks, because you’re experiencing some cool Math Oddness.

Ron Gordon, a Redwood City teacher, promotes this numerical holidays with a fervor including Square Root Day on 3/3/09.

Gordon is even establishing a contest that will involve “The Most People in the Oddest Parade of Odd Characters,“  and the prize will be, you guessed it, $579 and it will be distributed amongst the winners.

Now, I don’t know about you people, but math was not my favorite subject growing up and I always asked a million questions to my teachers to re-explain math problems.  So for me, to read this article and see the excitement of these number lovers, I’m happy for them, but still remain frightened of difficult math problems.

But… if you are a numerical fiend,  join Ron Gordon as he celebrates “Odd Day,” saying, “It’s a great day to do your odds ‘n ends, give a friend a high-five, root for the odds-on-favorite, read the Wizard of Odds, watch the Odd Couple, say aaaahd in the doctor’s office, look for sea odders, find that missing odd sock, and beat the odds.”

To my Geometry teacher, if you’re reading this, thanks for letting me pass!
