Wesleyan University student Johanna Justin-Jinich was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon at the campus bookstore and cafe in which she worked. She was shot by 29-year-old Stephen Morgan who had walked into the Brook Street Books bookstore wearing a wig and shot Jinich five times point black. Morgan then dropped his wig and disappeared into the crowded town square. Jinich was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital.

Police are still on the lookout for Morgan and have warned Wesleyan students to be “extra vigilant” while still reassuring them that the campus was now safe. Reportedly some evidence found at the scene of the crime that heightened the level of concern of local authorities. What that evidence was is still unknown.

News is still coming out on the case, but apparently Johanna had previously met Morgan at New York University in 2006. Since that time Morgan has continued to harass Johanna in person and over email with one recent email ending with the threat of “a lot more problems down the road.” Johanna had followed the threat up with a restraining order, but unfortunately that last step was not enough.
